SAINT PAUL E AMSTERDAM

Le isole Saint Paul (un cratere di 8 km2) e Amsterdam (58 km2), che compongono il distretto delle TAAF omonimo, benificiano di un clima oceanico caratterizzato dall'assenza di neve e ghiaccio in inverno ed un vento costante tutto l'anno. Sull'isola di Amsterdam cresce Phylica nitida, l'unico albero delle isole sub-antartiche francesi. La fauna comprende 12 specie di uccelli, 33 di pesci e mammiferi marini. L'isola di Amsterdam ospita dal 1950 le base Martin de Vivies.

The islands of Saint Paul (a crater of 8 km2) and Amsterdam (58 km2), that make up the district of the FSAT namesake, have an oceanic climate characterized by the absence of snow and ice in the winter and a steady wind all year. On the island of Amsterdam grows Phylica sharp (picture below), the only tree of the French sub-Antarctic islands. The fauna includes 12 species of birds, 33 of fish and marine mammals. The Martin de Vivies base was built on the Island of Amsterdam in 1951
